“Hill Social Welfare Society” is established in a year 2000.We HSWSisthe women-based organization which has been actively working for the development of the women empowerment, health, education and human trafficking along with empowering the self-help group members through various skill development trainings to uplift the living standard focusing on income generation activities for the betterment of their living since 2000. There are 450 nos. Of SHGs existing under this organization mobilizing more than 4500 SHG members with the income generating programme and others local issues like water and sanitation in the hilly region. We are working at 2 Districts viz., Kalimpong & Darjeeling District comprising Tea Garden and the rural areas which are the outreach areas where the development is lacking. More than 500 female farmers are associated with the organization basically comprising the rural areas due to there has been scope for Floriculture and Agriculture farming. As well we have been implementing skill development initiatives to upgrade their livelihood status providing trainings to the SHG and the Non-SHG members in various trades.
This organization has worth experiences in mobilizing women of underprivileged sectors through vocational trainings to earn a sustainable livelihood for their future trends. Kalimpong being 70 % of the agriculture belt, this organization has trained more than 2000 women in various trades like floriculture, horticulture, mushroom cultivation, noodles making, mix vegetables, pickles, phenyl and incense sticks making, vermin- compostand handloom weaving trainings, livestock training since its existence till date but we do not have equipment’s of handloom weaving for larger production.
This Kalimpong & Darjeeling hills specially border of Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Sikkim, China & adjoining state of India. Maximum Tea Garden closed & sick condition in the hilly region. Here, in the hilly region no such industry, companies, corporate, no any alternative source of income in the hilly region, another challenges every year facing landslides/ flash flood/ cloudburst/ disaster etc. Main issues are human trafficking & migration due to lack of opportunities in the hilly region.
