Madhya Ramkrishnapur Gramin Unnayan Samity (MRGUS), established in 1997, is a grassroots-level voluntary organization based in Sahapukur, Kumarganj, in the Dakshin Dinajpur district of West Bengal. Rooted in the belief that sustainable development begins at the community level, MRGUS has been working tirelessly to uplift rural and marginalized populations—especially women, and children—through integrated development interventions.
Over the past two decades, MRGUS has expanded its outreach across multiple blocks of Dakshin Dinajpur, including Kumarganj, Hili, Balurghat, Tapan , Kushmandi, Gangarampur, Banshihari & Harirampur. The organization focuses on various developmental themes such as education, child protection, health and nutrition, sanitation, livelihoods, gender justice, disaster preparedness, and agricultural sustainability.
MRGUS emphasizes a participatory approach in its work, engaging community-based organizations, self-help groups (SHGs), Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs), local youth, and women leaders to address local challenges. Through its various programs—ranging from operating schools and health support centers to rescuing trafficked children and supporting adolescent girls in building self-confidence—the organization aims to bring about long-lasting change at the grassroots level.
Driven by its mission to empower the most neglected sections of society, MRGUS has earned trust and recognition from government bodies, partner organizations, and the community at large.
