Motherchak Naboday Kishalay Sangha (MNKS) was founded by a number of enthusiastic youth in an obscure tribal‑dominated village in the year 1985. The Sangha in the initial years was involved in sports and cultural activities. The MNKS members included many Santal youth who regularly used to have fun from indigenous rural sports like kabadi, wrestling etc. Gradually they leaned towards playing football. Enormous talents were found among Santal youth which, if nurtured with proper guidance and coaching, would help them to come out with flying colours. Yatras in Santali language have become very popular in the tribal community. The organization has arranged practice for Santal jatras. Gradually, the members of the organization could understand that games and cultural activities could be means to get people together, but that is not the end in itself. There are a lot of problems within the tribal community in terms of health, education, employment, rights to forest areas and assets, migration etc. Hence, the organization took up different issues to tackle in which the tribal populations can take part in a big way. After the year 2002, when the organization got registered, the process of participation of people in the target area for the development process got rolling.
