About PRCA – People for the Respect and Care of Animals
People for the Respect and Care of Animals (PRCA) is a registered charitable Trust dedicated to the rescue, treatment, protection and rehabilitation of animals. Founded in 2008 by Founder Trustee Ms. Sharda Radhakrishnan, PRCA operates Chhaya Animal Hospital & Shelter in West Bengal with a vision of creating a world where every animal is treated with dignity, compassion and respect.
Spread across a 2.5-acre campus, Chhaya is a dedicated animal healthcare and shelter facility providing medical care, refuge and lifelong support to animals in need. The organisation works with a wide range of animals, including dogs, cows, bulls, horses, goats, sheep and birds, many of whom arrive after experiencing cruelty, abandonment, neglect, accidents or severe medical distress.
With extensive veterinary infrastructure, specialised treatment facilities, fully equipped operation theatres, dedicated recovery units and spacious shelters, Chhaya strives to provide comprehensive medical care and rehabilitation. From emergency rescues and critical surgeries to long-term shelter and palliative care, the organisation remains committed to ensuring that no animal is denied treatment or compassion due to financial constraints. All treatments are provided free of cost.
Beyond rescue and healthcare, PRCA is committed to creating greater awareness about animal welfare, promoting responsible and humane treatment of animals and advocating for the effective implementation of animal protection laws.
At its heart, PRCA believes that every life matters. Its work is guided by a simple yet powerful principle: compassion should have no boundaries and every animal deserves a life free from cruelty, suffering and neglect.
