A Legacy of Action: Completed Projects and Proven Impact
For the past 25 years and more, Purba Dwarakapur Sebayan Sangha has maintained a strong presence in the remote island communities of West Bengal. Their interventions are structural and sustainable, not stop-gap solutions, and often have the backing of the premier statutory and government bodies, thereby attesting to their institutional credibility and project compliance.
Here’s a glimpse of the milestones they have successfully delivered over the years, setting a clear blueprint for corporate philanthropy investments:
1. Foundations of Literacy and Cultural Integration (1999–2002)
The Purba Dwarakapur Sebayan Sangha has established 50 Non-Formal Education centers within the five isolated islands close by, recognising that systemic poverty is directly linked to a lack of early-stage opportunities during the early stages of life. The gigantic project, with the backing of the Government of West Bengal, has managed to educate 4,500 students who had dropped out of schools (from Classes I-IV). In order to facilitate this process, they have also organised developmental workshops in association with the Department of Culture, Government of India.
2. Illuminating Rural Lives: Solar PV Charging Stations (2008–2011)
Long before green energy was talked about in corporate boardrooms, Purba Dwarakapur Sebayan Sangha was already bringing light to the darkest corners of the delta. By partnering with TERI and the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Govt of India, they set up 10 Solar PV charging stations. This thoughtful initiative provided 500 solar lanterns, bringing clean, safe light into off-grid rural huts and giving families extra, safe hours to work, study, and live after sundown.
3. Climate Mitigation: Mangrove Plantations (2025–26)
Mangroves form the actual barricades of the delta, which guard communities from destruction caused by flooding, erosion, and cyclonic storms. With the help of Purba Dwarakapur Sebayan Sangha, who has carried out an eco-mitigation project for climate change targeting rural poor women through a drive of planting 12,000 mangrove saplings in the Sundarbans delta, with funds from CSR of Balmer Lawrie & Co Ltd.

4. Micro-Enterprise and Agro-Development (2025–26)
Local, specialised skill-building is necessary for economic self-reliance. The NGO, in partnership with the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), designed a customised Food Processing Programme for SC and ST women, based on local produce such as Jam, Jelly and Achar. They also implemented a Coconut Development Programme that developed an alternative agricultural value chain to help diversify income sources of vulnerable families away from hazardous forest-dependent activities.
The Pipeline: High-Impact CSR Opportunities Open for Partnership
Though their past accomplishments are many, there is anoverwhelming need to grow continually due to the enormity of the environmental problem and economic inequality in the region. In order to create holistic, sustainable community development in Sundarbans, Purba Dwarakapur Sebayan Sangha has established a pipeline of initiatives to achieve.
These projects are fully costed, strategically aligned with national sustainable development goals (SDGs), and specifically structured to optimise corporate CSR funding partnerships:
